In 2003, the all female country band, The Dixie Chicks were at the height of their fame. During a concert, with the US on the precipice of invading Iraq, one of the “Chicks” made an off the cuff remark about being ashamed of US President George W. Bush, being from Texas, the Chicks’ home state.

This simple remark sparks an avalanche of organised and personal right wing negative sentiment directed towards the band for having an alternative opinion about the President, an opinion that in the fullness of time may prove more credible. This observational documentary film provides insight into what the three women endured and how they dealt with the apparent catastrophe.

We follow the band over a three year period, as they struggle to ride out the storm that hinders their careers, while providing an opportunity to develop artistically and demonstrated that truly great artists do not bow to public opinion.

A really well crafted documentary with the musical performances only serving to enhance the film, it offers a timely reminder on the importance of being free to express an opinion.
