Frequently Asked Questions
I have lost my ticket, can I get a replacement
If your card is lost, write to the LFS at PO Box 60 Launceston, giving your name, address, and membership number (if possible). Please enclose a stamped self addressed envelope.
Your new card will be posted out to you as soon as possible. Whilst without your card just present yourself to the committee members at the door with your photo ID and you will still be able to enjoy the films. The first card lost will be replaced without charge, but subsequent cards will attract a $10 charge. If you find the missing card and we have replaced it with a new one, simply destroy the original.
Transfers
At present the Society permits ticket transfers until Easter each year. Ticket transfers are discouraged and to this end a charge of $10 is imposed.
I want to suggest a film. Who do I talk to?
Send your film suggestion to lfs@lfs.org.au. Please include the film name, country of origin, year of production, director and any information you can obtain. This will make it easier for us to see if it is available in Australia.
How do the films get selected?
Members may nominate a film for possible screening by using the form in the Newsreel or by emailing their suggestion to lfs@lfs.org.au. The committee also looks at films that are available on the mainland and elsewhere. A list of possible films is then compiled.
Generally we do not select films that have been previously screened at Village or that may be screened by Village. The Committee members then vote for the number of films required for the next Newsreel. All the votes are compiled and at a Committee meeting the range, types, and origin of the selected films is discussed resulting in a final list that is then forwarded to our distributor to check on each film’s availability. Films that are screening on the mainland do take some time to become available to us.
Can I/we hand out flyers?
We at LFS don’t mind you promoting your community and arts programs, but Village Cinema must be asked for permission. This is not in our hands. Please note that we don’t mind supporting other arts programs around (like Theatre North), but we are also not tied to them in any way, shape or form. LFS has a strict neutrality policy in regards to politics, religion and anything outside the films we show.
Why is there so much sex/violence in the films?
We try to cater for a variety of tastes. Sex and violence in cinema changes as the art-form evolves, so some years the films can have more or less. We do not go out of our way to screen or avoid such films - we try to strike a balance.
How do I become a committee member?
Committee members (4) are elected at the AGM (held in February each year). If you would like to become a committee member please complete a nomination form (included in the first Newsreel of the year) and send it to the Public Officer. Committee members are always on duty at the door prior to the screening of the film, so please talk to one of them about your interest in serving on the committee.
How do I make a complaint about “x”?
We take all complaints and problems seriously, so please send us a full detailed account of the issue to lfs@lfs.org.au. If it is of an urgent nature, then talk to one of the committee members at the next showing.
Can I bring a guest?
If you wish to bring a guest to LFS screenings you may do this through the purchase of an extra ticket labelled “Guest of (your name)”. This allows you to bring any guest to any screening. The guest must be accompanied by the member. This is to maintain our members only status.
Changing address?
If you change your address, write or email (lfs@lfs.org.au) giving your name, membership number and new address. Changing your details will ensure that you continue to receive NEWSREEL.
Problems
Sometimes the film may be out of focus, or you can’t read the subtitles as they are below the screen. Rest assured a committee member will have also noticed and be doing something about it. If you have any other problems just come and talk to a committee member and we will see if we can solve it. However, there is very little we can do about chip packets and noisy eaters!!!
