General Information

The Launceston Film Society Inc is a “Not for Profit” organisation run by volunteers.

Becoming a member of the Launceston Film Society

Membership is available through purchase of an annual ticket which permits access to all LFS screenings (around 40 per year) Membership is for the calendar year. Tickets generally go on sale in early December. Email lfs@lfs.org.au for details.

Showing Times

All showings start at 6pm at Village Cinema, Brisbane Street. To avoid disappointment get to the cinema early so you don’t miss out on a seat. If too many members arrive for a particular screening Village staff may refuse entry to those arriving after the cinema is full. Audiences seem to be usually smaller on Mondays.

Showing Days

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday

Members Only

All LFS screenings are for members only. You must show your card to gain admittance to the screening. Membership is strictly only for the person whose name is on the card. Proof of identification may be requested and entry refused if not supplied. To prevent embarrassment on refusal of entry do not lend your card to anyone. This is a requirement of our arrangement with Village. This also applies to member benefits, and any erosion of the goodwill of the businesses that provide these benefits will be to the detriment of all members. The committee will review any memberships that fail to abide with these by-laws.

School Holidays

As marked in the Newsreel and on the website, there are no screenings on some dates in school holidays. Be sure to check before coming to the cinema.

Lift Access

If you have a mobility problem, ask the friendly staff at the cinema to use the lift.

Waiting in Line

Sometimes the cinema doesn’t open the doors to our members until just before the film starts. To maximize both your time and ours, please keep orderly and tight lines. This will help you get in faster and other patrons of the cinema to move around more freely. Please have your ticket out ready to show.

Reserved Seats

The back row is reserved for Committee Members until the film begins at 6 pm, at which time the reserved notices are removed and members are free to use whatever remaining seats are available.

Hearing Aids and the cinema

The Village cinema has an “induction loop system” that surrounds the last two rows of seats. This allows people with hearing aids to use a magnetic field to hear the film sound.

When Age Matters

Films classified as R and MA may be screened, and persons under the appropriate age limit will not be admitted. You are advised to check each NEWSREEL for films with these classifications. The reviews will normally mention whether films involve explicit sexual or violent scenes.

Eating during the film

Please be courteous to other members when eating or drinking during the film.

General Talking and Noise

Please don’t talk during the film. Please make sure your mobile phone is turned off.
